It all started with bank shops to ensure that bank employees were appropriately handling money. Everything was done on paper or verbally explained to the Mystery Shopping Provider (MSP).
Mystery Shopping began in the 1940s!

The internet changed everything...
* Shopper websites popped up to request assignments
* Shoppers were emailed forms to print
*They hand-wrote the report twice unless you had a copy machine
*A post office visit was required to mail one copy to the MSP and shopper's paid for postage
*A paper check arrived a month or two later (as long as your report was not lost in the mail)
